Scope

The committee inquired into the circumstances which led to the 1976 retrenchment of 400 workers from the Mt Lyell Mining and Railway Company. Hearings were held over five continuous days and the committee reported the retrenchment was the result of increased production costs, depressed copper prices and adverse exchange rates.
