Legislative scrutiny committees examine proposed legislation (bills) introduced into parliament and delegated legislation (such as regulations and rules) made by the executive government. The committees report to the Senate on their assessments of legislation against a number of scrutiny principles aimed at protecting individual rights and liberties and ensuring parliamentary oversight.
