The committee examined whether certain tapes and transcripts of telephone conversations, allegedly linking High Court Justice Lionel Murphy with organised crime figures, were authentic and, if so, whether that conduct constituted 'misbehaviour', giving grounds for the judge's removal under section 72 of Constitution. All hearings were held in private session.
